U.S. Military Education Institutions Leverage Blackboard Technology to Educate and Train Service Personnel

WASHINGTON, DC, Feb 27, 2007 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX News Network) -- Blackboard Inc. (NASDAQ: BBBB), a leading provider of enterprise learning technology, announces today that ten academic institutions serving members of the United States military have recently renewed and upgraded licenses for Blackboard(R) products and services. Clients include:
-- Air University
-- Defense Acquisition University (DAU)
-- Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA)
-- The Joint Military Intelligence College (JMIC)
-- National Defense University (NDU)
-- United States Naval Academy
-- Naval Postgraduate School
-- Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences
-- U.S. Army Ordnance Center and School
-- U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command

Several of the institutions, United States Naval Academy, The U.S. Army Ordnance Center and School, DoDEA and Air University have upgraded their implementations to the complete Blackboard Academic Suite(TM), enabling students and faculty to connect, learn, and share resources and materials any time and from any location.

"At National Defense University's IRM College, an estimated 20% of students take online classes using Blackboard technology enabling faculty members to teach from a variety of locations for greater flexibility and international reach."(1)

The U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) consolidated its Blackboard implementation to provide course delivery to all 33 of its schools and centers which serve more than 400,000 soldiers and service personnel.

All ten of the military education institutions leverage Blackboard's technology to enhance traditional classroom instruction and enable service personnel and family members to access training materials 365x24x7. In addition, the Blackboard e-Learning platform will facilitate greater collaboration between faculty and students, which otherwise might not be possible, particularly for service personnel on active duty and away from the traditional classroom environment.

"Blackboard is proud to partner with these U.S. Military education institutions and to help facilitate education for the men and women who serve our country," said Tim Hill, President of Professional Education Solutions at Blackboard. "It is critical for the members of our military to have access to the latest training and education materials to carry out missions with the best resources available. Blackboard is privileged to play a role in this effort."
