Blackboard Opens New Data Centre in Germany

New Facility Responds to Rising Demand for Central-Europe Hosting Services

Frankfurt am Main, 30 April 2014

- In a move to better respond to customer requests for an in-region, private cloud facility to host and manage their learning environments,Blackboard today announced the opening of a new data centre in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The new facility is in addition to those already existing in the Netherlands, United States, Australia and Canada.

Through Blackboard’s global reach, scale and expansive private cloud hosting capabilities, the company is able to offer schools faster speeds, greater uptime and technical expertise to manage installations, upgrades, and day-to-day system maintenance. This allows institutional staff to devote more time and attention to improving and growing learning programs.

With service level offerings of up to 99.9 percent, Blackboard’s fast, secure and high performance infrastructure is specifically designed to support student and institutional success. Typically averaging over 150 million student and teacher interactions a day during peak times, the company’s data centres are staffed around-the-clock to guard against threats to physical and data security, natural disasters, and network outages of all types, while also providing a highly reliable hosting environment.

"We have seen a growing demand for private cloud services and the opening of a new state-of-the-art data centre in Germany addresses this need," said Matthew Small, managing director and senior vice president, international at Blackboard. "This is a priority for us because it is a priority to our customers, especially considering that data protection and processing laws are so stringent. This new production facility will benefit the entire Central European area and reinforces our commitment to the region."
