Data security is a critical component in today's payment processing environments. As a result, proper care and consideration must be placed on the handling of sensitive payment account data wherever it is captured, transmitted, or stored, including technical, functional, policy, and procedural activities and responsibilities. Improper handling and/or storage can pose significant financial repercussions, damage to image and reputation, and revocation of the ability to accept leading credit/debit cards for payment.

Like water and electricity these complex systems function with incredible uptime and process millions of transactions largely behind the scene.
