Staff College (JFSC) educates military officers and national security leaders in joint multinational and interagency operational-level planning and war fighting. Their challenge is to respond to the changing military environment by extending joint professional military education to members of the National Guard and Reservists.
More than fifty years ago the government of Colombia made a commitment to its population that worker training would be an important part of the services that citizens and corporations could expect in return for their local corporate taxes. Today SENA, the Servicio Nacional de Aprendizaje, provides face-to-face training to more than six million Colombians, of which in 2007 more than 1.2 million took courses online using Blackboard®, making SENA one of the largest online learning providers in the world.
The Naval Postgraduate School faced the challenge of using “emerging technologies” to develop distance learning opportunities for active duty U.S. military personnel, and resident international students. Incorporating Blackboard products into the NPS curriculum has produced several benefits including reduced expenses, greater overall student participation, and increased reliability.
On the afternoon of August 23, 2007, the Barrington Hills Police Department responded to two issues impacting village residents: a reported car chase, which resulted in a hit-and-run car accident, and a flooding incident. The Police Department was initially notified that a driver involved in the car chase may have been armed and dangerous. Immediately, the Police Department notified surrounding law enforcement agencies and began to coordinate regional communications and traffic plans.

The VA Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network serves veterans in an 8,500-square mile operational area across North Carolina, Virginia, and parts of West Virginia. In collaboration with the Veterans Affairs Employee Education System (EES), they planned and implemented a succession planning strategy to provide a continuous pool of high potential leaders for the Network.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) mission is to ensure effective health care coverage and quality care for beneficiaries. As part of that mission, CMS’s Training for Survey & Certification Group trains the 6,500 surveyors responsible for examining hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies and ambulatory centers for Medicare and Medicaid compliance.
