STEP 2

Install your test server

A test license will allow you to install Blackboard Learn, Release 9 on your dedicated hardware and develop your upgrade plan. We recommend that you assess your technology infrastructure, develop a plan to train users and test the upgrade process with your own data.

STEP 3

Decide between an in-place upgrade and fresh install

With an in-place upgrade, you'll use your existing hardware and follow the same process as previous upgrades. Choose this option to preserve system activity data or minimize your hardware investment. By choosing to upgrade with a fresh installation, you’ll install Blackboard Learn, Release 9 on a separate hardware environment. This option is a good choice if you would like to clean up system data and/or run a pilot.
