Grand Rapids Community College

As their commuter campus grew to over 5,000 students, Grand Rapids Community College knew that they needed to find a way to improve their outdated parking system. Before Blackboard, students had to carry cash to buy tokens, which not only was a hassle to students, but also used up a lot of staff time. GRCC looked to Blackboard Transact to help them implement a cashless system that used the school’s OneCard. This change helped them save time and money for both students and staff and ensured that parking spots were reserved for students.

The University of Pittsburgh

Prior to implementing Blackboard Transact on the University of Pittsburgh campus, the campus services offices were very disjointed, meaning that students were sent all over campus for help with their student ID, meal plan, and housing. Since then, the school has not only made the process simpler for students, but has also improved their data capturing and reporting - improving the overall efficiency of its back office.

Historically, employees have carried around hundreds of keys - most of them they inherited from people retiring or leaving. It was not unusual to have to try 20 keys to see which one worked! That's an expensive way to manage your access, especially when that only propagates the problem by adding more keys to the mix. Now with Blackboard Transact, we can see who has access. We can look at a door report to see who has been in the area. It makes key management simple

Financial Services

Arkansas State University

Arkansas State University started an off-campus merchant program in 2000 called Express Dollars, which allowed students to use their campus ID card as payment at many nearby restaurants and stores. The program’s success and rapid growth, however, meant that the staff workload increased exponentially, which slowed down student and merchant requests and processing time. To make the process more efficient, ASU turned to Blackboard Transact’s BbOne program. With BbOne, ASU was able to reduce merchant account reconciliation, shorten terminal processing time, and hand over the onsite troubleshooting to Blackboard.

The University of Pittsburgh

After the success of an integrated OneCard system on their campus, The University of Pittsburgh decided to establish an off-campus merchant program in order to continue to improve their service to students, as well as grow their revenues. However, they quickly found that running the off-campus merchant program in-house required a lot more work than they had predicted. In order to continue the program but ensure its success, they looked to Blackboard Transact’s BbOne program. With BbOne, they were able to effectively pay their merchants electronically and receive 24-hour support.

The biggest benefit that we’ve seen since the implementation of BbOne is that the pressure is off of us to handle all of the monthly reconciliations and our merchants are happier knowing that they are guaranteed to be paid the following day.
