Ask Dr. C

"Ask Dr. C" is a free question-and-answer service moderated by a dedicated group of your peers, fellow Blackboard clients. "Ask Dr. C" began answering a broad range of questions for the WebCT community and we are very pleased to offer this forum to the entire Blackboard community. Our mission is to provide quality answers to your questions in a highly responsive manner. In the process, we hope to build a global knowledge base for online teaching and learning.

NOTE: Ask Dr. C is a user forum for the discussion of issues involved the use of Blackboard and WebCT, and is moderated by a group of experienced clients. While we do try to ensure all messages get a response, we cannot guarantee a response to every message. Please be advised that messages posted in "Ask Dr. C" do not go to Blackboard Support. Paige Brooks-Jeffiers

Paige Brooks-Jeffiers

Paige is the eLearning Technology Coordinator for KCTCS (Kentucky Community and Technical College System). She trains and supports faculty on how to create quality content and implement it through the course management system. Paige has held this position since its inception in 2000. During her 10+ years, she has trained on six different CMSs including WebCT, Angel and Blackboard. She often travels the state of Kentucky providing training to KCTCS faculty and to admins and faculty of other institutions in the state. In addition to training faculty, she also teaches web design and production for a local community college. On rare down times when she isn’t in front of the computer, you may find her enjoying family time with her husband, two kids and five rescued dogs, camping with friends or at the local bingo hall. She joined Dr. C in 2010.

Nancy Edwards

Nancy Edwards

Nancy is a Registered Nurse with a BSN from the University of San Francisco and an MS in Health Education from Nova Southeastern University. While the first part of her career was spent in the medical arena largely working in staff development in hospitals, she has been involved with online learning in the academic environment since 1978. She has worked as an Instructional Designer, Director of Online Learning and as online faculty for both Florida Gulf Coast University and State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota. She has been a System Administrator for ANGEL since Fall 2004 and is presently an Application Analyst for Blackboard providing support for ANGEL clients.

Robert Gibson

Robert Gibson

Robert Gibson has worked in higher education for 22 years at five different colleges and universities, primarily as a distance educator. He has been a loyal Blackboard user since first transitioning to Blackboard in 1998. As a Blackboard Exemplary Course winner in 2010, Robert has a strong background in course design and great insight into using Blackboard software to yield the best online distance learning experience. He joined Ask Dr. C in 2010.

Eric Kunnen

Eric Kunnen

Eric is a coordinator of instructional technologies at Grand Rapids Community College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His primary role focuses on supporting faculty professional development on using technology in teaching and learning. He has used Blackboard technology since 1999—back then it was "Blackboard CourseInfo 4"—and has been involved in system administration, project management for upgrades, faculty training and end user support. He's a frequent participant on listservs, is involved in beta testing and the Product Development Partnership Program, and is a member of the Blackboard Idea Exchange steering committee. Eric has a background in teaching computer science and biology at the secondary level and a master of arts in education with an emphasis in educational technology. He joined “Ask Dr. C” in 2006.

Brian Morgan

Brian Morgan

Brian Morgan is currently an assistant professor in the Integrated Science and Technology Department at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. Brian, a native of Chesapeake, Ohio, is the program coordinator for the Computer and Information Technology major, advising 60+ students each year on education and IT career choices. Brian teaches computer programming, database management, GIS, and e-commerce courses both in the traditional classroom and as courses that are delivered 100% electronically. He has experience with many programming languages, such as VB, VB.NET, C, C++, PHP, ASP, Java and SQL. He has been using WebCT since its inception in 1996. Before joining the faculty at Marshall University, he served as the school's WebCT administrator and trainer for nearly four years and currently serves as a part-time trainer through Blackboard's Certified Trainer Program. When he doesn't have a keyboard attached to his wrists, Brian enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, and working as a self-proclaimed do-it-yourselfer. He joined “Ask Dr. C” in 2000.

Glen Parker

Glen Parker

Glen is the lead system administrator for course management at the University of South Florida.  He started working with WebCT and Courseinfo in 1999, and successfully consolidated on a single platform running Blackboard 5 Enterprise & Community system in 2001. For nine years he planned and installed the whole technology stack including Oracle, Solaris, Sun Cluster, Storage and HA redundant systems. He is a frequent participant on listservs, has presented multiple times at BbWorld, and is involved in beta testing and the Product Development Partnership Program. When not helping fellow Blackboard admins, Glen enjoys spending time with his wife and two boys, working in his garden, and studying Jefferson. He joined Ask Dr. C in 2010.

Julie Rorabaugh

Julie Rorabaugh

Julie Rorabaugh has been the Director of Instructional Technology for Cowley College for three years, steering the small Kansas community college through the conversion from WebCT 4.1 to ANGEL 7.2, and then finally through the 7.4 version change (and has miraculously lived to tell about it!). In her 12+ years of working in the field of education, Julie has trained faculty and taught students with Blackboard, WebCT, and ANGEL at a variety of colleges and institutions, and has always been an enthusiastic proponent of online teaching and learning.

Julie lives in Wichita with her husband, step-son, and their two cats. She gets through the day with the aid of a dreadfully expensive coffee drink, and always appreciates the occasional visit to Borders, an electronics store, and the designer purse counter of her local department store. Nancy Webb

Nancy Webb

Nancy Webb has been an Instructional Designer at the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) since July 2004, supporting faculty in the design, development, and delivery of online and hybrid courses, as well as faculty and student training for the college’s learning management system. She teaches part-time (online) for CSN’s Education department. 

A graduate of Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, Nancy earned her Master’s in Education with an emphasis in Instructional Design. Prior to CSN, she worked in the corporate and non-profit sectors, developing web-based training and facilitating adult education programs. She joined Ask Dr. C. in 2010.

Mike Zimmerman

Mike Zimmerman

Mike Zimmerman is a systems administrator at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), and has been managing their Blackboard system since 2001. He came on board to work with the team integrating UNO's original CourseInfo server with the SIS system and has been actively involved in the Blackboard user community since then. Prior to joining UNO, Mike spent many years doing library work—he's still a librarian at heart—before getting a degree in computer science at the University of South Florida and starting his IT career as Solaris administrator and Webmaster at Penn State's Population Research Institute in the mid 1990's. When not in front of a computer, Mike enjoys family time or playing bass in local bands. He joined “Ask Dr. C” in 2006.
