Send out crime notifications quickly with Blackboard Connect
University notification is an important element of nearly every campus safety department’s emergency preparedness and response plan.
According to the U.S. Department of Education’s Handbook on Campus Safety and Security Reporting, “The Clery Act requires every Title IV institution, without exception, to have and disclose emergency response and evacuation procedures in response to a significant emergency or dangerous situation involving an immediate threat to the health or safety of students or employees occurring on the campus.”
University notification can also be broken down into a discussion over emergency notifications vs. timely warnings.
A timely warning is a university notification about any Clery Act crime that is reported to authorities and represents a continuing and serious threat to campus safety. The expectation is that a timely warning will be sent when the relevant info relating to the crime is available.
Alternatively, an emergency notification has a wider focus on any immediate threat to the health and safety of students and employees, which could include but is certainly not limited to Clery crimes. The expectation is that a university notification in this situation will be sent out as soon as possible.
Blackboard Connect provides campuses worldwide with the university notification technology to comply with Chapter 6 of the Handbook on Campus Safety and Security Reporting as well as IACLEA’s recommendations on mass notification.
