About Cookies

Blackboard products use this technology to provide secure learning experiences, track usage and manage application performance.  Third party content may be embedded on pages within Blackboard products.  This third party content may include cookies from the content issuer. SafeAssign™ is a plagiarism prevention service, offered by Blackboard to its Blackboard Learning System Enterprise, Vista Enterprise and CE Enterprise clients.  This service helps educators prevent plagiarism by detecting unoriginal content in student papers.  In addition to acting as a plagiarism deterrent, it also has features designed to aid in educating students about plagiarism and importance of proper attribution of any borrowed content. 

 

The service requires the following information to be stored and tracked:
•Email
•First name
•Last name
•Role (if someone is a student or an instructor)
•User bbid (internal blackboard unique identifier for a user)
•Institution
•Course List (for instructors only, list of courses that are taught)
•PID (SafeAssign specific ID - written into the the PID column in the C_USER table)
•Skin (The skin defines what CSS and graphic images are used for a particular user and where they are should be retrieved from. There are 2 skins: default and sapl (for Powerlink users).  SkinServlet fetches graphic files depending on the skin of a user.
•Submitted papers
•Feedback (from the grader)

This application stores user preferences and/or personal information on the terminal device or computer that accesses this product.

Session & Login Information This application stores your user session locally in a browser cookie (noted above).  This cookie persists until you log out of the Blackboard Learn application. If you fail to log out of the Blackboard Learn application and leave the terminal device without closing the entire browser application, this information could be used by other users of the same terminal device or computer. This software monitors your usage as your interact with it.  This information is collected and shared consistent with the privacy policies noted above.    The laws governing such a disclosure vary, depending on where the server is stored and the application is being used. You are advised to consult counsel of our choice regarding applicable laws and regulations.  Blackboard may attempt to limit the disclosure of this information consistent with Blackboard’s legal advice and our privacy policies.
